Gilles De Hoog Jr. went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at the age of 61 following a short, courageous battle with lymphocytic leukemia.
Born on March 7, 1947, to Gilles and Anna (Vandenberg) De Hoog in Zuidland, Holland, he and his family emigrated from Holland to California in September 1947. In 1954, the family moved to Lynden, and in 1960 they settled in Everson. Gilles attended Lynden Christian schools and the First Christian Reformed Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era from November 1966 to November 1968. His employment included Mt. Baker Plywood, Bode’s Ready-Mix, various other jobs and in 1973 he began farming in the Lynden area.
