    Alphenaar, John W. "Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling Come home, Come home" John William Alphenaar went to his heavenly home on April 20, 2016 following a short battle with cancer. John was born on June 2, 1931 to Jacob and Jennie (VanSeventer) Alphenaar in Kalamazoo, MI. On March 16, 2016 John and his wife Betty celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and for over 50 years he co-operated Jake Alphenaar & Sons Painting. John is survived by his lifetime love Betty Newhouse Alphenaar; a daughter Peggy (Gunnar) Forssell; two sons Stan (Julie) Alphenaar and Dan (Molly) Alphenaar; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother Harold (Joyce) Alphenaar; two sisters Anne Tuinier and Rika (George) VanderPloeg; in-laws Louis (Joan) Newhouse, Amos (Jane) Newhouse, Janice Herrema, Fred (Elnora) Alphenaar; nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Gertrude Versendaal; in-laws Peter (Effie) Newhouse, Charles (June) Newhouse, John (Elaine) Newhouse, Henrietta (Harold) Stauble, Vernon Newhouse and John Tuinier. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 24th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 26th at the Texas Corners Bible Church (7780 South 8th Street) with Pastor David E. Thompson officiating. A private family interment with full military honors will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in John's memory may be directed to Texas Corners Bible Church or Rose Arbor or a charity of your choice . The family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown during John's passing.
